Reply:The author is Trevanium, One name only.

He writes fiction, but very detailed fiction.

His first 2 books the Loo Sanction and the Eiger sanction described first how to steal paintings from a french museum without being caught, (and somebody followed the steps and succeeded) and the Eiger sanction described how to scale one of the faces of Eiger mountain, and somebody tried and was killed, So in his 3rd book(and his best) Shibumi, Trevanium alludes to how the main character an assassin kills people, but he will not go into details because of what happened in his first two novels.
Reply:There was a man called Georges Simenon who wrote Inspector Maigret mysteries. He was born in Belgium but his detective lives in France. Here's a list of his books http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/geor... and http://www.trussel.com/f_maig.htm

I believe he wrote his stories in the French language, however.

His detective was one of the most famous, and Maigret usually solves crimes by getting to know the nature of the men involved in the crime.

Just a thought...
