Reply:Ann- ace
Reply:Yes, it's French. Pronounced somewhat like Ann-na it. Have heard two interpretations of it's meaning:

1) comes from of "Anna" (hebrew: grace)

2) comes from "Anahita" (a Persian godess)

Reply:Anais has an accent on the second a (two periods over the a) and is actually Hebrew. It means Graceful, and is pronounced ah-NYE-us.

Some other ideas, if you're going for the French sound, might be Colette, Olivia, Cachet (pro. cash-ay), Adrienne (though it's actually Greek in root, it has a French spelling), or Joelle.
