How do you pronounce the French given name for males "MICHEL"?

Is it pronounced the same way as MICHELLE?

How do you pronounce the French given name for males "MICHEL"?
It is pronounced identically to the French pronunciation of "Michelle", which is close to but not identical to the English pronunciation of "Michelle". In English, the "i" is often turned into a schwa sound, but in French it is a distinct (though unstressed") "ee" sound. Also, the "l" is a slightly different sound. All in all, however, pronouncing "Michel" the same way as "Michelle" would be pretty accurate.
Reply:me-SHELL (stress on second syllable). The "L" is made with the tip of the tongue against the top front teeth, and is more drawn out that it is in English.

In French, Michelle and Michel are pronounced the same way. However, neither is pronounced like Michelle is in English (which is /mih-SHEL/ or /muh-SHEL/).

Here is a good site with audio pronunciations:

Reply:I would have thought it would just be a spelling variation of Michael (Mike[as in 'bike']-ul)
Reply:Me-shell
